First, heard that word WILDWOOD in “HUGS FOR PEARL” by Paul Schmid (HERE). Pearl attends Wildwood School. She also is a fun loving hugging porcupine and you know that’s gonna be an issue…such a sweet book!
Hugs for Pearl by Paul Schmid Picture book, Ages 3+ HarperCollins, 978-0061804342, 2011Now…there’s a husband and wife team (ah, sweet!) that created the popular Wildwood Chronicles together (HERE). And I have to say that Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis did an epic job with their adventure WILDWOOD.
Wildwood by Colin Meloy (author) and Carson Ellis (illustrator) Fiction, 560 pages, Ages 9+ Balzer + Bray, 978-0062024688, 2011 And you can’t say the word WILDWOOD without thinking of the book “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak, Harper Collins, 978-0064431781, 1988. In searching for the illustration by Sendak when the Wild Thing hugs…I found this work by Lidia Puspita of http://monyetbuluk.blogspot.com/ says it all… And just for fun… HUG TIME by Patrick McDonnell, LB KIDS, 978-0316182959, 2012 and also, TIME FOR A HUG by Phyllis Gershator and Mim Green, illustrated by David Walker, Sterling Children’s Books, 978-1402778629, 2012 are really good Book Nook reads!
