Whiskers (c) Annalisa Hall 2012
What Yonder
by Annalisa Hall
What yonder howling hath made this sleeplessness awake
Whining and crying we both through bitter night take
To slumbering babes and restless earth seem to care no more
What yonder howling hath made this sleeplessness awake
I cannot venture out in the darkness for terror sounds a roar
To wandering stars and moon that seem to cradle my minds abhor
What yonder howling hath made this sleeplessness awake
Alas there is no telling what end cometh to those who dare not slumber
I for one have heard enough and yell to the high winds of cumber
Without fail adding to that which deems not worthy of the unquiet
Poor night comes swiftly to bid me goodnight at what howls yonder
